Looking for The Local Bangkok review? Skip to the bottom and I’ll sum it up for you in one sentence. If you’re planning your food itinerary for Bangkok and wondering if this Michelin-recommended Thai spot is worth a visit, here’s my honest review complete with details on location, vibe, price, dishes we ordered, and if I think it lives up to the accolades.

Where is The Local Bangkok? Is It Easy To Find?
Address: 32 32/1 Soi Sukhumvit 23, Khlong Toei Nuea, Watthana, Bangkok 10110, Thailand
Distance from BTS Asok station: 10 mins walk
The Local Bangkok is super centrally located and easy to get to. You can take a taxi or grabang (literally grab car). It’s only about a 10 minute walk from Asok BTS station.
We stayed around Sukhumvit, so this was perfect for us.
I will note it is on the main road but sort of tucked behind other buildings. So it does not feel super busy despite being in a busy Bangkok area.
Once you see the sign, you’ll know exactly where to go. It’s got a huge blue lit logo at night so super easy to spot.
We ended up eating at The Local on our last night in Bangkok after a disappointing dinner near our hotel the night we arrived. My husband was determined we redeem ourselves with a great meal!
Walk into Feel Like You’re in an Elegant Thai House
Inside The Local felt like we stepped into someone’s beautiful restored Thai home.
The entrance was this peaceful courtyard lined with bamboo sticks and warm overhead lights. It felt home-y. Cozy. Like we were somewhere’s living room rather than a restaurant.

As we entered further, there were elements of:
- Wood cabinetry
- Thai woven baskets & vintage Thai kitchens displays
- Jars of preserved Thai ingredients hanging in glass apothecary jars
- A wine wall
- Warm, yellow lights
In general, it felt very high-end but not overly snobby. Very strong Thai cultural elements with modern touches that made it feel elegant.
It was the type of restaurant you could take someone for:
- Date night
- A night out celebrating
- Business dinner
I also just love Thai food and always search out the most “local” restaurants when visiting a new country. I wanted to eat like a Bangkok local.

Was it Worth the Price?
Okay, so let me give you something you might not expect. Menu is priced around 2,600 baht per person, but we opted to order à la carte instead
Our total bill ended up being around 3,300 baht. For both of us.
Here’s what I’ll say. Given:
- The fact that this restaurant is Michelin recommended
- The quality of ingredients
- The size of the portions
- The execution
- Presentation
I would argue you get GREAT value here.
Yes, it’s not “cheap” in Bangkok by any means. But compared to other “Instagram famous” Bangkok restaurants we tried that charged comparable prices for food I didn’t feel wow’d by? The Local was spot on.

The Food: All Highlights, No Low Points
Ok, time to talk food.
We ordered a bunch of stuff and I feel confident saying we did not hit on a single dud. Everything we ordered was delicious.
Tom Yum Soup – Bright, Punchy, and Addictive

If I had to pick my favorite dish. It was this Tom Yum Soup.
I love tom yum that is sour vs heavy on coconut milk. This broth was light, bright, and addictive as hell.
It tasted completely clean. Notes of lemongrass hit you as soon as you take a sip, then you get this lime sourness followed by a hint of spice.
It literally took me two days to stop thinking about this soup.
The broth was:
- Packed with tons of lemongrass flavor
- Bright and sour from the lime juice
- Finished with a hint of spice
- Full of HUGE prawns that melted in your mouth
The prawns were insanely fresh. And the soup had so much flavor but wasn’t heavy or greasy. It was dang near perfect.
Order this if you’re a tom yum fan.
Traditional Thai Appetizer Platter – Beautiful Regional Flavors

We ordered a traditional Thai appetizer platter served family style on a tray lined with banana leaf.
It was full of small little Thai goodies like:
- Thai curry sauce over savory rice cakes
- Leaf wrapped snacks
- Minced meat dishes
- Little Thai favorites
This is a great dish if you want to sample regional Thai flavors. A lot of these dishes you won’t find at your typical Bangkok tourist restaurants.
Every single bite was seasoned well. There was no “meh” flavoring here. It was intentional.
Grilled Beef with Thai Dipping Sauce

This was a fairly simple dish but cooked soo well.
steak
- Juicy
- Delicately charred on the outside
- Not swimming in marinade
Thai dipping sauces are a whole art on itself. They usually have:
- Fish sauce umami
- Lime juice acidity
- Fresh herbs
- Thai basil
- Green onions
- A hint of chili pepper
This perfect balance of smoke from the grilled beef and acidity from the dipping sauce made this so satisfying.
Sometimes you order something that seems “simple” and it totally exposes a kitchen’s weaknesses. That was not the case here.
Pad Thai – Paradise with Giant River Prawns

Don’t turn your nose up at ordering Pad Thai at a Michelin Thai restaurant.
This was not your average street-pad thai. First off, the prawns. They were ginormous. Shrimp heaven.
But the noodles were:
- Have a slight chew to them
- Perfectly sauced, but not oily
- Not too sweet with a perfect amount of lime juice to cut through
Pad thai feels elevated but still hits that comfort food spot you’re looking for.
Shrimp Fried Rice – Delicious and Fragrant

We ordered shrimp fried rice and oh.my.word. If you’re anything like me, you might be skeptical of fried rice.
The rice was cooked perfectly fluffy and not sticky or clumpy. Each grain of rice was separated. The shrimp was fresh and cooked to perfection.
Fried rice can be hit or miss because it seems simple – but there’s so much that can go wrong. Not here.
Service: Competent and Friendly
Service was on point too.
Our server was friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient. She was able to clearly explain dishes when asked and paced our dinner perfectly.
No lukewarm food here! Plates were brought out quickly, but we never felt rushed to eat or decide on our order.
For a restaurant that has a Michelin recommendation, I expected solid service and they did not disappoint.
TLDR; Is The Local Bangkok Worth Visiting?
Short answer: Yes! It was worth every penny and I would return.
Long answer: If you’re visiting Bangkok, stay near Sukhumvit/Asok area and want a great Thai restaurant that feels elevated but not stuffy, THIS IS IT. The Local Bangkok gives you a taste of refined Thai you won’t get from hole in the wall street vendors.
Sure, there are plenty of other up-scale Michelin restaurants in Bangkok that may give you a similar experience. But there are also a ton of Michelin recommended spots that just felt “meh” to us.
I love when restaurants can stand out by focusing on what matters: great flavor, a solid spin on classic dishes, and consistency.
Those were my top takeaways from The Local.
Is The Local Bangkok Good For?
Will you like this restaurant? I think you will if:
- You’re visiting Bangkok and want to try what locals eat
- You’re eating in Bangkok with someone you want to impress
- You prefer a quieter fine-dining atmosphere
- You love traditional Thai dishes instead of just green curry and mango sticky rice
This isn’t a cheap place. But it isn’t trying to be. It is an upscale option with a great vibe that serves traditional Thai food you won’t find anywhere else in Bangkok.
Bangkok has no shortage of awesome Thai food. So if you’re wanting a one stop shop for recommendations, here are some of my favorites:
- Street Food Blogs we Love
- High End Restaurants We Loved
Trust me, you won’t be disappointed.
Final Verdict on The Local Bangkok
While our first dinner in Bangkok was lack-luster at best, our meal at The Local made up for it ten fold.
From the traditional Thai house vibes we felt as soon as we walked in to the tom yum soup that I dreamt about for days after, it was all Incredible.
No questions asked. We won’t stop recommending The Local Bangkok to others when they visit this city.
You’re welcome!
