Hi, we’re Derek and Nicole, and we run ShinyVisa, a family-friendly travel blog where we share our travel tips, guides, and recommendations. We love to travel and have brought our daughter Yuyi (born in 2022) along to experience the joy of seeing the world and make a lot of precious family memories as well!
Our Story
The family had been traveling multiple times a year around Asia over the years. So, when Yuyi started crawling at around one-year-old, we figured it was also time to give her some more memories. In fact, we believe she adds a lot more value in terms of the fun we have as a family when we go traveling. As she starts to walk more and more now, we look forward to continuing these travel journeys around the world with her.
We first met each other in our local universities, National University of Singapore (NUS) as we were traveling students. We both enjoyed spending time with each other, watching movies, traveling together, sharing interests, etc. And one day, we also ended up getting married. Haha. Now, we have both “converted” each other to our respective places of origins in China (Nicole is from the beautiful “mountain city” Chongqing) and Singapore. We’re still learning more about each other’s cultures as we grow as husband and wife and parents. Now we hope to be able to share with you these bits and pieces of our lives.
ShinyVisa started out as a travel blog for us to document and share our family travel journey as we see the world together. We believe that life is a journey that you should enjoy all the way. That’s why we created ShinyVisa, to inspire families to see the world and create lasting memories along the way. From trying new restaurants and tasting new cuisines, to getting to know new cultures and meeting new people, from taking scenic walks in nature to creating your own travel guides, tips and tricks to travel on a budget, to finding those off the beaten path places you never knew existed, ShinyVisa is all about experiencing life to the fullest!
