• Best time to visit

  April through June and September through October should provide great weather and lots of cultural activities. They are also peak tourist season, so if finding a good price for your hotel is your main concern try late fall or winter (excluding Christmas and New Year's season). The site you are already looking at suggests April–June and September–October as times when hotels fill up quickly.

• High season

  April–June, September–October. Hotel demand picks up during the spring holidays, major sporting events, Fashion Week and large expositions. Summer season is busier around major attractions though this can vary greatly by neighbourhood and dates.

• Festivals & events

  Fashion week in Paris also generates strong demand seasons throughout the year; these are late January, March, late June/early July and late September/early October. Roland- Garros, VivaTech (June), Maison&Objet/Paris Design Week (September) are other demand creators, as are big concerts and festivals like Rock en Seine. Before booking take a look at the events calendar as hotel prices can spike during events near venues and popular districts.

• When to book

  6–8 weeks advance booking is recommended for regular dates except from April to June and September through October. Highly desirable spring weekends, Fashion Week, Roland- Garros, big trade fairs or if you have your heart set on one particular well-rated hotel should be booked 2–4 months in advance for better selection of rooms and area.

• Typical prices

  Paris hotel prices are on the high side, especially in the most popular central arrondissements. For a very rough rule of thumb for the purposes of this article: €80- category budget rooms, €80–€150 for mid-range hotels, €150–€300 for upper-mid range properties and €300+ for luxury hotels per night, though rates can vary considerably more at peak times and during major events.

• Getting around

  Prioritise booking a hotel within walking distance (about 10 minutes) to a Metro or RER station. This is usually more important than walking distance to a specific landmark. Paris has an excellent Metro, RER, and bus system. As of 2026, the base fare for Metro-Train-RER on a single ticket is €2.55 and fares can be loaded onto Navigo Easy or other phones/smartwatches that are compatible. They have stopped selling paper tickets.

• Airport access

  Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) is served by the RER B line to central Paris. Orly Airport (ORY) is directly served by Metro Line 14. Airport services all require a ticket for Paris Region Airports unless you have a pass that includes zone 5 such as Paris Visite. If you are booking a hotel based on needing to catch an early flight, look at what time the first service runs and if there is any planned engineering work, rather than assuming you'll have a normal journey time during the day.

• Railway access

  Paris does not have one major central terminus station. Gare du Nord is your Paris station for Eurostar and trains to northern France; Gare de l'Est handles trains to eastern France; Gare de Lyon can be convenient for southeastern France and Switzerland; Montparnasse is good for western and south-western France; Saint- Lazare serves many trains to Normandy. If you arrive late at night or leave early morning by train, staying near that train station or on a metro line that stops there without having to transfer can make your journey easier. For journeys using high speed services, SNCF advises booking in advance to get the best fares.

• Family stays

  Hotel rooms in Paris are small and rooms for three or four may be difficult to find outside of hotels which only offer doubles. Families should ensure that there will actually be a configuration for the number of bedrooms they desire and should not assume an extra bed will be provided. If you are travelling with family, the 7th arrondissement may be a good choice if you wish to be away from the crowds found in most popular areas, yet stay close to most landmarks. Staying in apartments or connected rooms is usually more comfortable if you are staying for a while.

• Accessibility

  Not all Paris Metro stations have step-free access. Line 14 is completely accessible. Accessibility on the older Metro network is patchy; RER lines tend to be much more accessible. Visitors with wheelchairs, mobility devices or bulky strollers should research both hotel accessibility and accessibility of their closest stations prior to booking a reservation. • Payment tips

  Cards and contactless are very widely accepted for hotels and day-to-day spending. Check with the property what their payment/deposit requirements are before arrival. Certain hotels may also authorise your card prior to arrival/deposit and will want the card you booked with upon check-in. Always have some euros set aside should you encounter somewhere where cash is preferable and opt to pay in euros instead of accepting dynamic currency conversion if given the option.
