The only hotel in Nice that can provide uninterrupted views of the Baie des Anges (Bay of Angels) is none other than the iconic Hôtel Suisse Nice. There is a hotel called “Swissôtel” in Nice, but that is an international brand and does not have those magnificent views.
Hôtel Suisse has those postcard-perfect views. Nestled at the top of Old Town, Hôtel Suisse has rooms with unobstructed sightlines across the Promenade des Anglais and over the Mediterranean sea.

I stayed at Hôtel Suisse for one night, and while I can say the views from this property are absolutely incredible and will blow your mind, the actual property left me feeling slightly underwhelmed. In this review, I cover everything from its location and rooms to amenities and price, so you can decide for yourself whether Hôtel Suisse Nice is worth the splurge.
Location: Simply the Best in Nice
First things first: location. This hotel does not play games when it comes to location. Situated at the bend of the bay, it has 360-degree views of the Promenade des Anglais and panoramic views of the Mediterranean stretching to the horizon.

Outside the hotel, you’ll be able to reach:
- Castle Hill (Colline du Château): At the back of the hotel is a short walk up Castle Hill. Perfect for a morning hike and sweeping views over Old Town.
- Old Town (Vieux Nice): Five minutes away and you’ll be in the heart of Old Town, walking cobblestone streets lined with cafes, markets, and gelato.
- Promenade des Anglais: The property fronts on the most famous seaside promenade in Nice.
Honestly, the reason anyone stays at Hôtel Suisse is for the location. You pay a premium for that property at the curve of the bay, and if the sea views are your number one priority, then you won’t be disappointed.
Rooms: Basic with a Few Touches
I have read that Hôtel Suisse has had a few renovations recently, and the rooms do feel fresher than the old reports of drab yellow paint I read a few years ago. The design is basic, primarily sticking to Mediterranean whites and light pastel tones to not distract from the view.

What I liked:
- The balcony is all about the sea view. Whether you are looking at sunrise or late-night lights, the best way to enjoy is from the balcony.
- The rooms that had bathtubs face the sea views, so you can sit in the tub and stare out at the Baie des Anges.
- I was a little concerned about the soundproofing of the rooms, given the property is right on the road. I was happily surprised at how quiet the rooms were.
What I didn’t like:
- The rooms are relatively small for the price you are paying. You have enough room for a bed, a desk, and some storage space. But you will have to give up some space on the balcony.
- The bathrooms are another story. Renovated recently, but given the age of the property, you can see the signs of wear and tear, especially in the plumbing. The shower in my room leaked water on the floor.
- Water? Two measly cans of water in the minibar. For €290 per night, you should at least get a bottle of water for free.
Simply put, the rooms are functional, but it is the balcony and window that are memorable.
Facilities & Amenities: Minimalist
The hotel is not a grand Riviera property by any stretch of the imagination. It is a small boutique property, and there aren’t many frills to speak of.
Elevator: Tiny is one word to describe this lift. It barely fits three people with luggage. One of the smallest elevators in Europe.
Lobby & Bar: There is a small seating area in the lobby with a bar, but nothing over-the-top.
Restaurant: There is a breakfast service but no full-service restaurant. The real restaurant in town is right outside the door.
This is not the place to go if you are looking for resort-style amenities or spa treatments. The best way to use this hotel is as a sleeping base and as a window to enjoy those jaw-dropping views.

Service: Efficient but Low Effort
The staff at Hôtel Suisse were friendly and efficient. They were doing their job and kept a polite distance.
Compared to other boutique hotels in Nice, Hôtel Suisse did feel a little low effort. For example, other hotel chains like HappyCulture give you a little gift in the room (e.g., beach towel) or complimentary unlimited plain water in the minibar. Hôtel Suisse does not try to wow you with little extras. It banks on its location to seal the deal.
The View: The Reason You Book Hôtel Suisse Nice
I can’t write about Hôtel Suisse without dedicating a whole section to the view. From the gold sunbeams over the Mediterranean sea at sunrise to watching the Promenade des Anglais twinkle with streetlamps at twilight, the view is quite simply world-class. There is a window or the balcony in every room in the hotel, so whether you are brushing your teeth or taking a bath, you’ll have the Baie des Anges right there in front of you.
It is not a room with a view. It is a room that revolves around the view. In fact, I found myself staring out at the view for hours at a time. Watching the waves crash, joggers on the promenade, and twinkling lights at night.

I stayed during the shoulder season, so the rooms cost about €290 per night. During high summer, you will easily be looking at double that price. This hotel is not a deal, you’re not paying for plush interiors or five-star amenities. You are paying for that front-row seat on the bay.
If money is no object and the best sea view in Nice is your goal, then it is 100% worth it. But if you are after more space, more amenities, or more value for money, you may be better off looking at some of my other suggestions in the area.

Pros & Cons
Pros
- Best location in Nice, right at the curve of the bay
- Panoramic sea views from almost every room
- Sea view balcony (even a bathtub view in some rooms)
- Rooms are recently renovated
- Steps to Old Town and Castle Hill
Cons
- Very small rooms for the price
- Tiny elevator impractical for any luggage
- Limited amenities, no pool or spa
- Only two cans of water provided in room
- Bathrooms seem prone to plumbing issues
Who Should Stay at Hôtel Suisse Nice
If you are looking for the best views in Nice, this is the hotel for you. Ideal for:
- Couples: Couples looking for a truly romantic balcony over the Côte d’Azur.
- Photographers: If you are a photographer who values a stunning panorama above all else.
- Short Stay: One or two nights to take in the views, before relocating to a more comfortable base.
On the other hand, this hotel is not ideal for:
- Children & Families: The rooms are simply too small for families with children.
- Resort Lovers: Travelers that want all the resort-style amenities.
- Budget Travelers: This is a splurge hotel.
Final Verdict
Hôtel Suisse Nice is one of the most iconic hotels on the French Riviera and it’s not because of its luxury or refined design. It’s because it has one of the best views in the world, and if waking up to the Baie des Anges is your dream, this hotel will provide that to you.
Yes, the rooms are basic, the elevator is tiny, and the amenities are almost non-existent. But when you sit on that balcony with a glass of wine in hand and watch the sun set below the horizon, none of that matters.
Hôtel Suisse Nice is proof that a hotel can have value not for its amenities or its design but for the fact that it is perched above one of the most beautiful views in the world.
