Looking for something new while in Da Nang? Want to take a break from Vietnamese street food or pizzas? You can try TEPPANIZAKAYA HIDEKI.
Hidden in downtown Da Nang, this newer Japanese teppanyaki restaurant brought some serious flavors and dishes to the table (literally). The menu was narrower than most places here in Asia, but the food was stronger because of it.
Plus, the ambiance gives you that casual-but-knows-what-it’s-doing vibe.
I stopped in on my last trip to Da Nang and didn’t know what to expect, tbh.
Let’s dive into everything you need to know about TEPPANIZAKAYA HIDEKI.
The Decor & Ambiance (Restaurant Vibes)

As soon as you walk into TEPPANIZAKAYA HIDEKI, you’ll immediately notice there’s an open teppan counter.
Tables seat you around the cookers. Instantly setting the tone of an authentic Japanese izakaya-style restaurant. Because you’re not just dining here. You’re watching your meal be made right before your eyes.
Very minimalist interior design. Nothing flashy here. Just wooden countertops, industrial-looking ventilation systems, and low-key decor to keep the place intimate.
Here’s what I loved:
- The restaurant felt very clean and well kept
- Ambient lighting, not super dark
- Quiet, making conversation easy
- Didn’t feel touristy at all
You can tell it’s a place locals go to, but you can come here as a traveler and not feel out of place.
Ok, so here’s the thing. Most restaurants spread themselves WAY too thin these days.
TEPPANIZAKAYA HIDEKI does the opposite. And honestly, I loved that about it.
Here me out….
From what I gathered, the menu isn’t huge. But what it lacks in size, it makes up for in intention. Dishes that clearly don’t overload you with too much funkyness. It’s what you want from a quality teppanyaki restaurant.
Menu included:
- Teppanyaki meats and veggies
- Osaka-style dishes like okonomiyaki
- Some standard izakaya dishes you know and love
Nothing here really blew my mind because I wanted to try everything. But that’s also a testament to how balanced the menu is.
Food Review: Highlights from What I Ate
Kashmin-Yaki

I think this dish is named Kashimin-yaki, I am not very sure. But I will remember the way this tasted.
Fresh. Savory. Juicy. Charred. Tender.
On a bed of cabbage and brown sauce. It tasted like what teppanyaki should taste like. Straightforward and simple.
Grilled Shrimps with Salad

This dish was beautiful. I’m pretty picky about how seafood cooks, and I have to say these shrimp were cooked PERFECTLY, despite being a little small in size.
Slightly charred on the outside. Tender and juicy on the inside.
What I enjoyed:
- Fresh lettuce to mix in
- Light sesame-style sauce drizzled on top
- Minimal ingredients to keep it clean tasting
It wasn’t heavy. Which was great because a lot of the dishes here are richer and decadent.
Okonomiyaki (Osaka-Style Street Food Pancake)

I don’t think you can go wrong ordering this dish at TEPPANIZAKAYA HIDEKI.
However, if you’re looking for something that transports you to Osaka, Japan. Order this dish.
Solid 9/10 you are tasting authentic Osaka flavor.
Texture was incredible. Slightly crispy on the outside. Soft and fluffy on the inside.
Covered in that rich okonomiyaki sauce, then topped with mayo. Every bite was sweet, savory, and downright addicting.
Tamagoyaki

This tamago yaki was honestly one of my favorite dishes at TEPPANIZAKAYA HIDEKI. Presented on the teppan hot plate cut into bite sized pieces, the yaki tamago was cooked to perfection with a soft, slightly fluffy center and barely caramelized on the outside.
Each piece was drizzled with a slightly sweet savory sauce and sprinkled with green onion as well as a dash of red to not only beautify the dish but add more flavor. I just loved how balanced this tasted. It wasn’t heavy but rather very satisfying. On paper this is a simple dish but when made right, it’s one of those things you keep mindlessly going back to.
Tebanaka Karage
Simple. Perfect.
This Nagoya-style Japanese fried chicken wings tasted so good.
Sure, it’s a relatively simple dish. But that’s because fried chicken wings is hard to MASTER. And these guys did it.
Service Experience
Now we’ve reached my favorite part of any restaurant.
From both my personal experience who have visited TEPPANIZAKAYA HIDEKI:
- Employees are friendly and personable
- They don’t rush you or try to upsell
- They actually listen to your questions/comments

Another observation: There was a small sign that mentioned guests could receive a free drink if they left a Google review. But NEVER did the staff bring this up or push us to order another.
Love that. Seriously. Feels authentic, not forced.
