Visiting My Khe Beach in Da Nang
Coming from downtown Da Nang we hopped into a Grab and rode over to My Khe Beach. The whole thing isn’t far at all. In fact, after crossing over from the city it only took us minutes to arrive.
We opted to take it easy one morning in Da Nang so we kicked back with no rush agenda. We spent a leisurely morning walking along the beach as a family. Expectations were high but what we got was a mix of postcard-perfect beaches but also some real eye-openers.
The palm trees with white sandy beaches reminded me a lot of places like Nice in France. There’s something about that contrast between cities and beachfront that makes a place feel alive.
The waves were also strong here. Loud crashing sounds you could hear from far away. Da Nang has a certain buzz to it because of those waves.

It also feels a touch “low spec” compared to beaches I’ve been to Nice. The air quality wasn’t as clean. There was a fog sort of overlay on the whole atmosphere. And the water didn’t quite have that crystal clear vibe you’d get from island beaches.
Where to Find My Khe Beach & How to Get There
My Khe Beach sits along Vo Nguyen Giap Street in Da Nang. It is located only a short distance outside of the city center.
Traffic wise, from popular tourist areas like Dragon Bridge it is only around 5 – 10 minutes depending on traffic. It felt like we got there super quickly after hopping in the car.
If you’re staying central, your transportation options include:
- Grab/Taxi – easiest option
- Motorbike rental – common option
- Renting a bicycle – could work if you like taking it nice and slow
Overall My Khe Beach is super accessible making it one of the easiest beaches to visit in Vietnam without taking an entire day.
Address: Da Nang 550000, Vietnam
Long Beach Coastline
The beach itself really blew us away from the moment we arrived.
It’s LONG. And it doesn’t feel cramped like some beaches can feel in Southeast Asia.
The soft white sand coupled with lines of palm trees gives off that resort city vibe.
To be honest it reminded me of Nice Beaches in France. There’s something similar about the urban skyline meeting the ocean and giving the area a really energetic vibe.
The water was also stronger than we anticipated. You could hear waves crashing from far away which definitely added a sense of power to the beach.

Not Always Crystal Blue Water…
Ok so before you get too excited about My Khe Beach. Let me put some expectations in check.
While the scenery looks unreal. As you get closer you start to realize it’s not all sunshine and beaches in Da Nang.
Firstly the air quality wasn’t great when we visited. It was quite hazy which gave the whole area a washed out look. Water wasn’t as bright turquoise as you’d find on tropical islands.
Overall the water clarity just isn’t as good compared to Bali or Phuket for example.
…but not everything!
Don’t get me wrong you can still have a good time at My Khe Beach. Just don’t visit for the water if that’s your main thing.
If you’re visiting Vietnam and already in Da Nang, it’s worth checking out because of its proximity and ease of access but keep your expectations real.
Smooth White Sand
Ok now for the good stuff. If there’s ONE thing My Khe Beach has going for it. IT’S THE SAND.
It’s super fine and feels really soft. Walking around barefoot wasn’t uncomfortable even under the hot sun.
The sand wasn’t grainy and hurt your feet like some beaches can be. It was also soft enough for our little girl to run around and play in the sand.
Delightful for Kids and Families Too
If you have kids or are traveling with families, you’ll be happy to know that My Khe Beach has plenty of space for little legs to run around.
Overall the beach was spacious, clean for the most part and easily accessible. There were plenty of places to sit down and relax with some ocean views.
Keep this in mind though, if you plan on wandering around barefoot or letting your kids run around. Yes there is space and it’s actually kept pretty clean. But we did come across random patches of litter left behind from previous visitors.
Just use a little common sense and you’ll be fine. This pretty much applies to any tourist trap these days.
Casa Bay Beach Clubs, Bars & Chill Spots at My Khe Beach

We decided to slow things down and grabbed a seat at one of many beachside cafes along My Khe Beach.
There are tons of beach clubs and small casual restaurants lining My Khe Beach. We passed by Casa Bay Beach which looked like a nice laid back tropical spot with shade and access to the sand.
Grabbing a seat with a cold drink and watching the waves hit the shoreline is honestly my favorite way to spend time at My Khe Beach. Sitting back and relaxing is kind of the point.
There’s no need to rush from point A to point B like so many other vacation destinations these days.

Things to Do at My Khe Beach
The great thing about My Khe Beach is you don’t really need to do much. In fact sitting back and relaxing is kind of the point.

- Walk along the beach
- Swim in the ocean or let the waves wash over you
- Let the kids play in the sand
- Grab a seat at one of many beach bars
- Take plenty of pictures in front of the “Da Nang Beach” sign.
Having minimal things to do kind of allowed us to enjoy My Khe Beach more.
The Best Time to Visit My Khe Beach
If you can I’d recommend visiting either early in the morning or later afternoon. Mid-day sun can be brutal, especially when traveling with kids.
Both times were great but gave us different vibes. If you have access to a beach day like we did since you’re staying nearby, I recommend visiting more than once!
Pros & Cons of Visiting My Khe Beach
Let’s get some things straight:
What I Liked:
- Nice long stretch of beach
- Sand was soft and fine
- Very close to downtown Da Nang
- Great for families with kids
- There are plenty of beach clubs and restaurants to check out.
Cons:
- Air quality could be better
- Water clarity isn’t as turquoise as you would expect
- Occasionally there was litter on parts of the beach
Fine Sand Quality at My Khe Beach
I’ll say the one thing My Khe Beach killed it at was the sand quality.
It was fine. Soft. And didn’t hurt my feet when walking around barefoot. Not too much hot sun beating down on us either.
Our daughter had a blast playing in the sand and walking along the water’s edge.
If you’ve got kids or traveling with family, My Khe Beach is great for that.
Litter on the Beach
One thing to note, we did come across some bits of litter around certain areas of the beach.
It was far and few between but you do get bits of litter laying around as people tend to leave their trash behind after visiting.
Should You Visit My Khe Beach in Da Nang?

If you’re wondering if you should visit My Khe Beach, my honest opinion is yes…but.
Yes if you’re looking for a chill and relaxing day near downtown Da Nang with your family.
…but if you’re dreaming about the crystal blue waters you typically find at tropical island paradises, you may be slightly disappointed.
That being said Da Nang Beach is one of Vietnam’s best beaches and for good reason. My Khe Beach may not be the whitest sand you’ll ever step foot on but it does what it says on the tin.
There’s nothing overly fancy about My Khe Beach. And that’s what I loved about it.
Final Thoughts
Don’t overthink your trip or schedule yourself crazy itineraries. My Khe Beach is best experienced when you kick back and relax.
You’re not here to photograph the perfect picture. You’re here to spend quality time with the people you love.
Bring your feet up and take a load off at My Khe Beach.
You won’t regret it.
