InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort Review (2026)

Booking a luxury beach vacation in Vietnam will likely land you at the InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort at some point. Nestled into the hillsides of Son Tra Peninsula, it’s touted as one of the most iconic resorts in all of Southeast Asia.

Well…I stayed here with my family recently and learned something about this place. This is not your typical luxury resort. It is dramatic, artistic, and very unique. However, at the same time, it is also one of the most polarizing hotels I have experienced.

In this post, I am sharing my honest hotel review for InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort. Read on!

Planning a stay here? We booked it for the views alone—and honestly, waking up to this made the entire trip. Check availability

Welcome to InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort!

Imagine arriving at this massive hotel and realizing you’re not simply checking into a hotel room… you’re stepping into an over-the-top design exhibit.

Bill Bensley truly crafted something special here with Vietnamese influences sprinkled with black-and-white theatre vibes, temple undertones and heavy doses of yin-yang inspired visuals. From the gigantic rock edifices protruding out of the hillside down to the decor in each room corridor, everything about this resort is calculated. And grandiose.

Speaking of grandiose.

Sun Peninsula Resort sprawls over acres and acres of real estate on multiple tiers down a hillside. There are buggy rides to transport you around along with the famous Nam Tram cable car gondolas.

It’s gorgeous.

But whether you’ll like it…

Rooms: Stunning…Oddly Divisive Too

Ok, I have to be honest here. If I had to rate any aspect of my stay “gold” it would have to be the rooms.

Don’t get me wrong — rooms at InterContinental Sun Peninsula are beautiful. They have great space, balcony views of the ocean, lavish touches throughout and boast one of the best bathrooms I’ve seen in any hotel room recently.

In fact…the bathrooms are worth the travel alone. It’s open. Luxurious. Inviting.

The rooms themselves were…ehhhhh for me.

The black rooms with dark furniture and stark contrasts are meant to make you feel like you’re sleeping in your own mysterious luxury cocoon. It’s artsy. Edgy. But also sort of oppressively dark if you stay in your room during the day. It doesn’t get much light inside which made the rooms feel super dim during my visit.

Add in some questionable creepy vibes from the mirrored ceilings and massive cabinet pieces towering over you. My parents would literally hate these rooms. It’s less lux vacation and more “cool art statement.”

Gorgeous. But not for everyone.

Still considering this hotel? After staying here, I’d easily come back just for the views and overall experience. Check availability

Kid Friendliness: Shockingly Good at…Being Family Oriented

Here’s the thing about the InterContinental Sun Peninsula Resort that really took me aback.

Despite its luxe status — this place is actually GREAT for families. Especially if you’ve got little ones tagging along for the vacation.

Here are some reasons why:

Kids bath sets and slippers were provided in our room. This was super helpful for easing my kid into the room/hotel life and is always a nice touch that families appreciate.

The food options were also accommodating. Kids meals were offered complementary at no additional cost!

Free childcare was available at the kids club. It was incredibly reassuring knowing we could have peace of mind by dropping our kid off at the club while my wife and I spent some time together. For parents, that’s HUGE.

And don’t forget the kids pool. InterContinental Sun Peninsula has a dedicated children’s pool so you don’t have to hover your child near the deeper pools like at other resorts.

Overall, travelling with your kids here is better than you might think. The room amenities, dining and activities really make this place stand out for families.

Buffet Breakfast & Dining: Good Food, But Expect to Pay

Food here is great, though there are some things to consider.

Citron Restaurant is the best spot to dine at Sun Peninsula. Why? The restaurant takes patrons into these “basket boats” perched high up against the glass walls with views of the ocean. Honestly, the coolest restaurant vibes in Vietnam.

Breakfast isn’t included (unlike many resort hotels), but will set you back about $35+ USD per person. It was sizable and delicious but something you should plan for if you go.

Breakfast with a view is easily one of the highlights of staying at the resort

We also tried dinner at Terra Mare. After reviewing the menu prices we realized it was one of the moderately priced restaurants on resort property. The bill for four adults was about $300 USD. We thought that was pretty reasonable. Terra Mare focuses primarily on Italian food. The food was actually pretty good. What impressed me even more was how family-friendly it was. Children six and under eat free.

Food was good overall. Lots of options and quality meals. Just expect to pay extra for anything not included in your stay.

If this is on your shortlist, I’d recommend locking it in early—rooms with views like this don’t stay open for long. Check availability

Facilities & Beach: Sun Peninsula REALLY Delivers Here

If I had to describe this resort in one word it would be “facilities.”

Their beach is perfection. Private. Serene. Lined with trees to create that secluded island vibe we all dream about.

And the pools. Oh the pools. The infinity views are gorgeous and you’ll never feel crowded at Sun Peninsula due to the massive layout of the resort.

This is where being able to “just hang at the resort all day” really shines. And it’s something I love about staying at luxury resorts vs. booking local hotels.

TLDR; Pros and Cons

Here are my takeaways from our trip to Sun Peninsula.

Pros

  • Dramatically beautiful setup. You won’t mistake staying at this hotel for anywhere else.
  • Lots of hidden perks for families travelling with kids
  • Food, beach and facilities are ridiculously good
  • Easily the best bathroom room setup I’ve ever seen

Cons

  • Rooms are gorgeous but not for everyone. Expect darkness and heavy furniture
  • Kids are good…but dining not included in your stay
  • Can feel a tad too “produced” instead of relaxing

Best Suited For…

  • Families with younger kids will also appreciate the extra touches and kid-friendly activities.
  • Not so great if you prefer bright minimalist aesthetics or traditional luxury interiors. Parents with older kids/ages might not feel the same love either.
  • As far as older parents go…I just dont think my parents would have enjoyed the hotel room aesthetics.

If you’re planning a special getaway, this is one of those stays that genuinely feels worth it—from the views to the overall experience. It’s the kind of place you remember long after the trip. Check availability

Overall

InterContinental Sun Peninsula Resort at Danang is a “love it or hate it” sort of place.

Gorgeous place with amazing facilities. Yet the room experience was one of my biggest turn offs from the resort.

Would I stay here again? Sure. But only if I was craving that “Instagram-y” vibe all over again.

Thinking about booking? My suggestion. Book it. You’ll love the experience, if not the comfort.
