Of all the places we visited in Da Nang… Dragon Bridge at night was THE place we felt captured the essence of the city.
We didn’t have any elaborate plans. We finished dinner at a restaurant near our hotel, realized Dragon Bridge was only 7 minutes away, and decided to wander over…
Little did we know that night stroll would become one of our favorite experiences from our trip to Da Nang.
As soon as we hit the riverside, things started popping. Dragon Bridge glowed like golden fire across the Han River. Watching the colors dance on the water took our breath away. For a moment, we felt like we had walked into a freaking postcard.
Getting there was… well, let’s just say… crossing the road took some doing.
Keep in mind that we were actually visiting the back of the dragon tail when we went. (The head is where the fire show takes place.) Honestly? It didn’t seem that bad from there either. It actually gave you a complete side view of the bridge going across the river, and you could really see all the lights reflecting off the water. It also seemed a little less congested which made it easier to snap some photos and enjoy the view.
How to Get to Dragon Bridge (And Survive That Insane Crossing)
Dragon Bridge is in the heart of the city center and right along the Han River so chances are wherever you’re staying is only a short walk away.
Our hotel (Cozy Danang Boutique Hotel) was literally a 7-minute walk so we figured…easy-peasy.
HA! If we’re being honest…the challenge wasn’t the walk. It was crossing the freaking road.
Anyone that’s visited Vietnam knows what I’m talking about.
The roads don’t really stop… everyone just flows together.
Motorbikes zip by you while cars weave around buses. It’s insane.
But we figured it out:
- Slowly walk to your destination (don’t stop mid-street)
- Make eye contact with drivers coming towards you
- Assume that cars will swerve around you to avoid hitting you (they will)
Trust me, it feels extremely hectic at first. Even more so with kids. But after awhile, it becomes second nature.
(I still recommend scouting out obvious crossing points, though — especially at night).
Ok, now that we got that part out of the way…
Why Dragon Bridge Is So Awesome?
Dragon Bridge is special. Like really special.
It’s hands-down one of Da Nang’s most iconic landmarks. Not to mention, it’s probably the coolest bridge we’ve seen in Southeast Asia.
Here’s why:
1. The Dragon Bridge Itself
Dragon Bridge has the distinct and very picturesque appearance of a giant golden dragon arching over the Han River. At night it lights up in hues of red, orange, and gold which looks absolutely incredible from basically every angle.
2. Fire Show ft. Magical Spray Paint
Every weekend night (Saturday and Sunday) the dragon shoots fire and sprays glittering water.
Yes. FIRE.
You’ll want to be there by around 9:00 PM for the show itself. It lasts about 10–15 minutes and both sides of the river get packed with people cheering.
3. It’s Convenient
Dragon Bridge sits between some of Da Nang’s most popular destinations making it easy to tack onto just about any itinerary — whether you’re staying near Da Nang beach or the downtown area.
Best Time To Visit Dragon Bridge Da Nang
Timing is everything.
Based on our experience, here are the best times to visit Dragon Bridge at night.
Nightfall (7:30 PM – 8:30 PM)
Cue the nightly extravaganza. Lights turn on, crowds slowly start to trickle in, and people settle into a low-key mood.
Fireworks Show (~9 PM)
GO TIME.
For those visiting over the weekend, this is not one you’ll want to miss.
Tips:
- Get there at least 20-30 minutes early to secure a good spot
- Avoid standing too close to the dragon’s mouth if you don’t want to get soaked
- Have your camera ready! Fire bursts come quickly
Late Night Hours (10 PM+)
This is when things die down. If you like fewer people and a more mellow environment, come during this time. It’s also prime time for photos and peaceful strolls by the river.
Best Spots For Photos and Views
We decided to walk along the riverside and it ended up being some of our favorite views.
Here are some options:
Han River Walkway (Recommendation)
This was where we snapped most of our pictures. You get a clear view of the Dragon Bridge without any obstruction.
Dragon Bridge Itself
Go ahead and walk or drive across it too. People often flock to the Dragon Bridge during fire shows, as traffic usually comes to a halt.
Bars & Restaurants Nearby
Or if you want more comfy seats, grab a seat at one of many bars or restaurants around the area with river views.
Dragon Bridge with Kids
We visited Dragon Bridge with our son and LOVED the experience.
Fun fact: he was way more entertained than us!
The vibe is electric but not overwhelming. There are wide open areas on the river where kids can run around. Plus, the dragon show will blow their mind.
Keep an eye out for:
- Road safety when crossing streets
- Crowds during fire shows
- Water sprayers if you’re too close to the bridge

Use Dragon Bridge Lights As Your Background
Because the dragon bridges lights change colors, try to time your pictures when the lights complement your photo.
Use The River’s Edge As A Frame
We used the riverside railing for some of our shots. Not only did this create a frame, but added more depth to our photos.
Turn On Night Mode
If you have night mode on your phone, USE IT. Trust me, you want those lights visible and not filled with photo noise.
Take More Than One Shot
Colors will change due to lighting. Movement will happen. So take more than one shot!

It’s surrounded by SO many fun activities.
Night along Dragon Bridge has so many different vibes depending on what you do. Personally, we loved wandering along the river and ending our night with some laughs.
If you ask me though, these are the must-do’s around Dragon Bridge:
1. Dinner on the Han River
We ate dinner near Dragon Bridge before coming over to explore. There are tons of places you can grab Vietnamese cuisine or international dishes overlooking the Han River.
2. Visit Night Markets
Visit night markets nearby. Buy souvenirs, snacks, and some street food.
3. Take a River Cruise
Hop on a river cruise! It’s a short cruise that goes up and down the Han River. You get an entirely different perspective of Dragon Bridge from the water.
Getting to Dragon Bridge Da Nang (Cầu Rồng)
Is Dragon Bridge Worth Visiting?
Yes. Definitely yes.
Even if you’re on a short visit to Da Nang make sure you tack Dragon Bridge onto your itinerary.
Between the stunning views, dragon boats, and magical spray paint show…it truly takes your breath away.
OK. Fine. Not all of that was Dragon Bridge related. But wandering over after dinner, laughing through the crazy road crossing, and watching the bridge light up at night was an unexpectedly amazing experience for our whole family.
FYI…The same can be said for your visit. Just remember…
