Mount Faber Cable Car Review (Pokémon Theme)

Mount Faber Cable Car has probably become something that you tourists do whenever you visit Singapore.

Okay, yes. I felt the same way too.

Until I spotted the $8.80 resident promotion for $1 adult, realised there was a Pokémon themed experience going on for the cable cars currently… and decided it was the perfect opportunity to bring Nicole and Yuyi out for a family day.

We ended up having so much fun and it’s honestly one of the nicest things we’ve done recently as a family.

What should’ve been a chill cable car ride turned out surprisingly enjoyable!

Why We Chose To Visit Mount Faber Cable Car

There were three factors that influenced our decision.

Reason #1 – $8.80 resident promotion

Living in Singapore, we’ve always skipped Mount Faber Cable Car as we felt “it’s too touristy” whenever we see the regular adult pricing.

But when I saw how cheap it is with the promotion, I knew we had to go.

Reason #2 – Pokémon Day-to-Night Adventure

Yup. We couldn’t miss the Pokémon-themed promotion taking place at Mount Faber Cable Car.

Yuyi is obsessed with Pokémon at the moment, so seeing Pikachu and friends decorating the cabins immediately sold us.

Reason #3 – Easy activity for the whole family

We just wanted something chill.

Like nothing too complicated that requires extensive travel plans. Or time-consuming excursions that require us to bring a lot of stuff for Yuyi.

Something scenic. Fun. Quick. Easy to do with a toddler.

Mount Faber Cable Car fit the bill.

Getting To Mount Faber Cable Car Station

We started off at Mount Faber station itself.

Mount Faber Cable Car actually had some Pokémon-themed decorations and backdrops at their entrance. Including life-size Pokémon decorations! We promptly walked over to see Yuyi point at the display cabins near the entrance.

Bonus Pokémon-themed touch: one of the cabins had Pokémon stickers on the inside as well! Yuyi loved it.

There was also a gift shop near where you buy tickets and board the cable cars. This was convenient… and also dangerous as parents because there’s a lot of Pokémon merch and Singapore Cable Car souvenirs.

Tip: Go into the gift shop first if you’re bringing children. Talk to them before the trip if they can purchase anything. Avoid negotiating with your child while they’re mid-cable car experience.

Queueing up to board was easy-peasy. The staff were friendly and patient as families took turns getting into the cable cars with their prams and strollers.

Kids’ Fun: Pokémon-Themed Cable Car Ride

Presently, Mount Faber Cable Car is celebrating Pokémon Day-to-Night Adventure. Honestly, this DOES add on to the experience.

Random cabins had different Pokémon-themed interiors and characters.

Some examples we spotted:

• Pokemon decorated cabins
• Pokemon cushions
• Colourful Pokémon-themed bench seats
• Pokémon decals on the cabin windows

I lost Yuyi for a good five seconds after our cable car cabin came into view… then proceeded to hear nonsensical babbling of her pointing at everything.

Honestly, the Pokémon touches made it way cooler for children.

They’re no longer just riding a cable car for a scenic view. Inside, you’ll see Pokémon patterns wrapping around the seats and even outside of the cabins, the panels are colourfully decorated.

For adults too. Instead of being bored at having nothing to look at on the cable car ride, now we have Pokémon decals to distract us haha.

How Was The Mount Faber Cable Car Ride?

So scenic.

I honestly forgot how scenic Mount Faber Cable Car really is.

As we ascend from Mount Faber station, you’ll start off with city views which slowly disappear to trees…and eventually water views towards Sentosa.

Views include:

• Harbourfront vicinity
• Cruise ships docking at the terminal area
• Ships docked offshore
• Trees and greenery from Mount Faber and Sentosa

It feels really nice gliding along above the trees. Nicole is usually not a fan of these kinds of rides (she likes her feet on the ground) but even she enjoyed the experience.

Yuyi was a little hesitant at first because she was curious but also scared. However after two minutes she was good and pointing at EVERYTHING.

The cable car cabin itself felt smooth too. We didn’t feel like we were jerking from one side to another. Really stable.

Mount Faber Cable Car: Safe For Kids?

As fellow parents, that’s always our number one concern whenever we bring our kids to new places.

Are they safe?

From my honest observations during our visit:

• Cabins are enclosed. Doors are securely fastened by staff before boarding.
• Seats are firmly secured within each cabin.
• You also don’t go FAST on the cable car ride.

Yuyi was content sitting on her seat without me constantly holding on to her. Of course, we were SUPER vigilant when riding but we didn’t feel scared for her at all.

If your kid has a fear of heights, you might want to prepare them mentally before the cable car ride. But if your kid isn’t a daredevil like Yuyi, she’ll probably be fine with Pokémon characters distracting her.

Photography-Friendly Mount Faber Cable Car With Pokemon

Photography buffs would enjoy Mount Faber Cable Car as well.

• You can find Pokémon display cabins when you first enter the station.
• Pictures with themed backdrops overlooking the city.
• Colourful interiors on the cable cars.
• Outdoor viewing decks at various points.
• Pictures of the cable cars bobbing along against the blue sky.

Personally, I love snapping pictures of the cable cars going above the tree line. There’s a nice contrast between the vivid colours of the cable cars and blue sky.

On the cable car itself, we took some nice candids with Nicole and Yuyi doing peace signs at the same time with the skyline behind them.

Mount Faber Line vs Sentosa Line

They have two cable car lines operating.

Mount Faber Line. This takes you from Mount Faber towards HarbourFront and Sentosa.

Sentosa Line. This runs within Sentosa.

We only really focused on their Mount Faber segment as Nicole and I felt that this was the best for scenic views.

If you want something longer, you can take both segments for a longer adventure.

Personally for families with little kids, Mount Faber Line is probably good enough.

Mount Faber Cable Car Ride Duration

The cable car journey for each segment takes roughly between 10-15 minutes.

Factor in some waiting and transfer time if you’re doing a full round trip.

Our visit was great since it wasn’t too long that Yuyi would get bored. Yet wasn’t too short that we felt like we didn’t have enough time with her.

You’ll know your child best – but if you’re wondering how family-friendly Mount Faber Cable Car is, it’s decently paced.

Is Mount Faber Cable Car Worth It?

Hell yeah.

Especially when they have promotions like these running!

Truthfully, if they didn’t have promotions, I would’ve probably thought otherwise.

Paying S20+ for something that feels so touristy isn’t very enticing to us Singaporeans.

But paying $8.80 per adult feels like a steal.

Kids loved the Pokémon cabins.

Adults enjoyed the nice views.

Mount Faber Cable Car gave us a different perspective of Singapore.

Mount Faber Cable Car is:

• Affordable for a family day out
• Scenic
• Unique
• Filled with Pokemon
• Much better than spending money at indoor playgrounds or shopping malls

Best Time Of Day To Visit Mount Faber Cable Car

My personal recommendations from our experience:

• Morning. Quieter. Less people. Cooler weather. Better views.
• Late afternoon. Get those golden hour shots!
• Night. Night views are gorgeous as well if you time your visit right.

Definitely prepare for some awesome pictures during sunset.

Tips Before Visiting Mount Faber Cable Car

Here are some things to note before visiting Mount Faber Cable Car.

• Definitely lookout for any promotions for Singapore Residents before heading down.
• Bring water if you’re visiting during hot afternoons.
• Warn your child beforehand if they’re scared of heights.
• Decide whether you want to explore Sentosa after your visit.
• Decide BEFORE entering the gift shop if your child can buy something.

Our Honest Review / Experience Of Mount Faber Cable Car With Kids

Look, I have to keep this honest.

Had there been no promotion nor Pokémon theme on display, I probably would’ve never taken Nicole and Yuyi down to Mount Faber Cable Car.

We saw those touristy cable cars hanging by the strings outside our homes gazillion times.

But with $8.80 promotions for Singapore Residents AND Pokémon-themed cabins lined up at the stations? SIGN ME UP.

Yuyi enjoyed herself.

Nicole and I enjoyed looking at Singapore from a birds-eye view.

It was honestly such a breath of fresh air seeing Singapore from a different perspective instead of being on the ground.

Sometimes, we overlook attractions in Singapore because “everyone does it” or “it gets too crowded”.

But taking Yuyi to Mount Faber Cable Car during the Pokémon promotion made me realise how fun some of these attractions can be when you experience it with the eyes of a child.

Mount Faber Cable Car was pleasantly surprising.

Who Would Enjoy Mount Faber Cable Car?

Mount Faber Cable Car is ideal for the following:

• Families with young children
• Fans of Pokémon
• Couples who love scenic views of Singapore
• Singapore Residents who see the value promotions
• Tourists who want a bird’s eye view of Singapore

Mount Faber Cable Car isn’t ideal for:

• Those who have a extreme fear of heights
• Thrill-seekers looking for adrenaline-fuelled activities

Mount Faber Cable Car offers you a chill ride filled with scenic views. Not a roller coaster you’d find at Universal Studios Singapore.

Summary: Chill Ride. Great Views. Good For The Whole Family

We initially thought of bringing Yuyi out for a chill Saturday activity.

Yet it turned into so much more than that.

Watching Yuyi’s jaw drop when she first stepped into one of the Pokémon decorated cable cars, Nicole smiling as we looked down at the skyline together, gliding along the harbour; it was more than worth it.

It made me realise that sometimes, the best activities for your family are ones that are right here in our own backyard.

I hope you see the resident promotion while it’s still running – we had a blast at Mount Faber Cable Car!
