For those who value convenience and speed when traveling, this property is fantastic.

Located extremely close to the station, traveling via train early in the morning or to the airport is hassle-free.

Rooms are modern, clean and everything you need. This isn’t the Ritz-Carlton but it is dependable comfort in the heart of one of Tokyo’s busiest neighborhoods.

Modern hotel, very hip city living feel.

Feels like one of those boutique lifestyle hotels for hipstery travelers who care about design and aesthetics and love coffee shops and cool ambiance.

The lobby/common areas feel energetic but not hectic. There is also a really popular pizza place downstairs that lots of people seemed to patronize.

Location is close to the crossing and removed enough from the craziness of the tourist areas.

Pros

If you’ve stayed at one Dormy Inn in Japan, you’ve stayed at them all. They are consistently good.

My favorite thing about this Dormy Inn was the public bath. By nightfall, after wandering around Tokyo for 20,000 steps, there is nothing better than jumping into a hot bath.

They’re also known for serving free late night ramen and man, is it good. Considering how exhausted your feet will be after walking around all night, it feels especially heavenly.

This hotel is located conveniently between Shibuya and Harajuku which means you can enjoy exploring both!

Pros

  • Great value
  • Public bath
  • Free late night ramen

Tips for Booking Hotels Near Shibuya Crossing

Book in Advance During Busy Times

Tokyo hotels are known to book up far in advance during:

  • Cherry blossom season
  • Golden Week
  • Autumn foliage season
  • New year holidays

Hotel prices around Shibuya can skyrocket during these seasons.

Double Check the Room Size

Rooms in Tokyo can be smaller than you might expect. Make sure to pay attention to square meter sizes if you’re traveling with family or bulky luggage.

Walking Distance from Stations is Relative

“5 minute walk” can actually take much longer in Tokyo if you have luggage. There are often stairs, crowded sidewalks, and crossings to navigate.

Hotels with direct station access or that are extremely close to Shibuya Station can be life savers.

Avoiding the Crossings is Better with Family

If you’re traveling with kids, staying just a bit off the beaten path from the crossing may allow you to have your cake and eat it too. You’ll be close to all the action while avoiding the rowdiest nights.

Is Shibuya Better Than Shinjuku?

It depends on how you like to travel.

For me, Shibuya is a little easier and nicer for first timers. It just feels newer and trendier and less overwhelming than Shinjuku.

Shinjuku is heavier on nightlife/party entertainment density. Shibuya just feels more even with shops/restaurants/cafe and transit.

I usually suggest Shibuya first to families and couples.

Final Verdict

The primary advantage of staying around Shibuya Crossing is convenience—you can’t find a better location in Tokyo.

At the high end, Cerulean Tower Tokyu Hotel provides the best overall luxury stay.
If you’re visiting Tokyo for the first time, you can’t go wrong with Shibuya Excel Hotel Tokyu, which boasts views of the crossing and the Tokyo skyline.

Hotel Indigo Tokyo Shibuya and sequence MIYASHITA PARK are excellent boutique-style hotels with modern vibes.

Tokyu Stay Shibuya and Dormy Inn Premium Shibuya Jingumae are good budget-friendly options for families and solo travelers who appreciate convenience.
