South Kyoto

South Kyoto tends to have bigger hotel rooms with more bang for your buck than Gion/central Kyoto. Popular with families and travelers watching their budget.


Tips for Visiting Fushimi Inari Shrine

Get There Before 7AM

Crowds can be avoided by arriving before sunrise. Sunrise here is typically around 7AM. Getting up early will mean less people and better photo opportunities.

Don’t stop at the bottom!

Fushimi Inari is known for it’s lower torii gates. Most tourists stick to this lower level. For the most serene walk we recommend continuing on up Mount Inari. There are plenty of great views the higher you go.

Vist at Night!

Being open 24 hours a day, Fushimi Inari offers a unique experience at night. Check it out after dark and watch as the paths light up with lanterns.

Come Prepared with Comfortable Shoes

Expect to hike 2-3 hours round trip if you plan on making it all the way to the top and back. There are stairs.
