As recommended by a Vietnamese friend (who has been living in Singapore for more than 10 years), today we make a visit to Yummy Viet, a Vietnamese restaurant which is located in Chinatown. According to my friend, Yummy Viet is one of the few Vietnamese restaurants in Singapore that he feels has retained its authenticity without being localized to suit the tastebud of Singaporeans. This is the place you want to visit if you crave for some authentic Vietnamese cuisine! BTW, the Yummy Viet is started by a Vietnamese as well.

We arrived at the restaurant at around 2 PM for a late lunch session. Though it’s way past the lunch hours, the restaurant is still half seated with customers, mostly tourist. It seems like Yummy Viet is quite popular among tourists, probably because it is located near a backpacker hostel.

The interior of the restaurant looks simple, chic and white.

You can see frames of old photos hanging on the wall around the restaurant. These old photos represent some old, renowned buildings in Vietnam (I presumed).

BBQ Sugarcane Shrimp Rolls – Chao Tom – S$5.90/2pcs

I highly recommend this Chao Tom. The shrimp meat is fresh, tender and juicy. This is the first time I tried Chao Tom and I really like it. The combination of shrimp meat with sugar cane is awesome. Which genius could have thought of that?

Fresh Summer Rolls Gỏi cuốn – S$3.90/2pcs

I am not a fan of Goi Cuon but my friends enjoy it. Be sure to ask for Nuoc Cham dipping sauce. The rolls seem to go better with it.

Chicken Rice Noodle

The chicken broth soup is tasty and rich, but it may be a bit salty for some. I will definitely recommend this dish if you want something light.

BBQ Pork With Rice

The pork tastes not bad as well. Nicole says she will give 6.5 out of 10 for this.

Sliced Beef Noodle

Creme Caramel With Coffee (Ca Phe Kem flan)

This dessert is a must-have. You can request the dessert to be served after you finished your main dishes. FYI, Ca Phe Kem flan is a very popular dessert in South Vietnam.
