Thonglor Thai Cuisine is the new kid on the block in the mookata space in Singapore. Located inside Djitsun Mall in Ang Mo Kio Central, it has already garnered a steady number of loyal customers since it started. By walking past the restaurant every time, one can always smell and got seduced by the aroma of bbq grilling meat from its flagship mookata set.
Thonglor is a result of the founders’ passion for the Thai culture. The founders frequently made trips to Thailand to experience the uniqueness and beauty of the land of smiles with an objective to bring back the richness and authenticity of the Thai palette.
Thonglor Thai Cuisine serves authentic thai and savoury thai cuisine at affordable prices.
Without having a reservation in advance, we embarked on our food discovery journey to try out the mookata set in Thonglor Thai Cuisine. At around 6:00 pm, the restaurant is already filled with customers at this time. There were already a few reserved tables and we were guided to our table by the friendly staff who looks like a Thai. We settled down and quickly made our orders with their Mookata as the main highlight and a few other ala-carte dishes.
Thonglor restaurant looks quite stylish with Thai paintings and sculptures around. The restaurant is air conditioned and installed with a smoke ventilation system to ensure your clothes don’t get stench by the smoke from the bbq grilling.
When you ordered their mookata set, you will also gain free and unlimited access to their mini veg and sauce station. There are 4 sauces you can choose from.

Mookata Set
The mookata set costs $39.90 (U.P. $49.90) and it’s for 2 – 3 persons. They are quite generous with the servings and at a $39.90 price tag, it’s definitely considered cheap. The meat are also marinated well.

Mookata Add-On Dish
We ordered more chicken meat as add-ons. Their add-on dishes starts from $4.90 onwards and you can order a variety of dishes that are not included in the mookata set like luncheon meat, fresh corn etc.

Deep Fried Mid Wings
The staff recommended us the deep fried mid wings over the pandan chicken, and so we decided to try the deep fried mid wings out instead. The mid wings are well fried in golden crisp color and it’s not bad at all.

Fried Glass Noodle With Chicken
The fried glass noodle comes with chili flakes and peanuts. Before eating, be sure that you mix them well. The serving is huge and can easily be shared among 3 persons. Unfortunately, we couldn’t finish the whole plate and had to “take away”.

Thai Iced Milk Tea & Thai Lime Juice
The Thai ice milk tea and Thai lime juice are quite disappointing though. It’s not as “strong” as what I expected and the drinks come a little bit diluted. Also, I think they can crush the ice more! Thonglor can definitely do some improvement on their drinks. Nevertheless, the drinks are still at acceptable level.

The Mookata
Time to start grilling everyone! Unlike other mookata restaurants like Tomyum Kungfu, Thonglor does not use charcoal to heat up the grilling pan, instead, they used an electric powered one.

The sauces play a great factor in elevating the taste of the bbq meat, so ensure you got your sauces ready beforehand. The downside is that your mouth may stink of garlic smell for 1 to 2 days!

Summary
Overall, I enjoyed my dinner at Thonglor Thai Restaurant. Our bill comes at around $20 per person. I would say their mookata set at $39.90 is definitely worth it considering the big serving of the ingredients. If there is one area to improve, I believe Thonglor can work more on their drinks!
I will be revisiting Thonglor Thai Cuisine again to try out their ala-carte local Thai dishes in near future.
