Taking over the location from Thai Express in Hougang 1, Thai Super Bowl is a newly opened Thai concept restaurant that has been drawing quite a bit of hype due to their unique huge pot/tray of tom yum soup. Thai Super Bowl just opened around April this year and although I stay nearby, I didn’t have the opportunity to try it out until recently. Due to work, I reached the restaurant somewhere after lunch time around 2 PM.

As expected, the restaurant is quite empty, but I am not the only one. Amazingly, I find the interior of the restaurant to be quite slick and clean, and it’s quite spacious as well.

They have ala carte set meals as well. Chicken red curry with a mixed vegetable set, basil chicken & egg rice set and more.

After browsing through the menu, you have to make your order at the counter. You will receive a queue pager which will “buzz” when your order is ready. The good thing is that my pager did not buzz and that the staff actually served the food to me instead of me collecting myself. Thanks!

Super Chicken Bowl

I wanted to order their signature Super Bowl (4 – 6 persons) at S$36 but I was alone. In the end, I ordered their Super Chicken Bowl (S$13.90) which is stated suitable for 1 – 2 persons.

After waiting for around 15 minutes, here comes my Super Chicken Bowl! The serving is actually quite big for 1 person. Basically, this is tom yum hot pot with chicken minced meat, lettuce, lemon/lime slices, an egg, chicken balls and Thai Maggie Mee. To be frank, I don’t quite like it. Quite disappointing as it tasted just like tom yum instant noodles that I can cook myself, and I am actually expecting more. The soup could richer and thicker too.

Definitely not quite worth the S$13.90 if you ask me personally.

* I revisited Thai Super Bowl on  24th Dec 2017 to try out their ala-carte dishes.

Basil Chicken With Egg Rice Set

The basil chicken with egg rice set costs $6.00 and can be quite filling for some. The stir-fried basil chicken may be a little spicy, but the taste is okay – Just like any typical basil chicken rice set.

Tom Yum Soup

I am utterly disappointed with their Tom Yum Soup. Nothing like the photo on the menu! Take a look below and judge for yourselves.

Thai Spring Rolls

Being a restaurant, I think Thai Super Bowl could have improved their spring rolls better. The spring rolls tasted just like the ones you can buy from NTUC yourselves.

Crispy Chicken Wings

Not that crispy as shown on their menu! It’s more of grilled chicken wings if you ask me.

Thai Milk Ice Tea

I got myself a Thai Milk Ice Tea as well to fight the spiciness of the Super Chicken Bowl. Not the best ice tea I had, but at a price tag of S$1.50 in Singapore, not much you can complain about.

Summary

I expected so much more for their Super Bowl dishes. I feel that a price tag of S$13.90 for a “Maggie Mee” dish is not quite worth it. The tom yum broth is quite disappointing as well. It’s not as rich and thick as I think it should be.

Since it’s near my place, I probably will make another visit down to try out their Signature Super Bowl in near future. Hope there are some improvements then.

If you visited Thai Super Bowl and your experience is better than mine, please let me know in the comment box below.

* Update: I revisited Thai Super Bowl on 24th Dec 2017. Probably not ever going to visit it again. Sorry @Thai Super Bowl, but think Thai stalls in food court serves better quality food.
