We came across this cafe located just across the road opposite Serangoon Stadium and decided to check it out. Kombi Rocks took over the location of the old defunct coffee shop called Koon Kee previously. Just along Yio Chu Kang road, Kombi Rocks is popular for their Asian-Thai food and their retro theme with display of old vintage cars and bikes just outside their cafe.

Just by stepping into to cafe, you can feel as if you have instantly time-travelled back to the 1970s. With retro music featuring Beatles and old wooden and metal tables, the decor and ambience definitely bring people back to the old days.

The times, they were a-changing. A man walked on the moon. Four boys from Liverpool told the world that all they needed was love. Dance floors rocked and rolled. Music became groovy. Hair got longer. For the first time, the cry for peace was louder than the sound of war. It was a “youthquake”, a musical revolution. And it took place in the back of a VW Kombi.

There is this huge “HULK” that welcome us at the door. It’s wearing Kombi Rocks’ t shirt as well.  We wanted to take a photo with it but was too embarrassed as the place are pretty packed at the time.

Inside Kombi Rocks cafe, you can see a large wall display of photo frames, albums and electric guitars.

Look at the beautiful display of clocks and vintage vehicles toys. The Kombi Rocks team has did an amazing job with their interior designs. Just in case you are wondering why there are fans, that’s just for display purposes only. Don’t worry, the whole cafe is air conditioned.

We visited Kombi Rocks after our lunch thus we are already too full to try out their main dishes. After browsing through the menu, we ordered drinks and desserts instead. When you are ready to order, you need to go the the counter to place your order and make payment. We spent a total of around $20+ which is considered pretty affordable.

One interesting thing of their table is that they are many write-ups, ads and info below the table glass. This is a pretty good way to keep your customers occupied while waiting for the orders.

Our orders arrived shortly after 15 minutes. Their serving time is pretty fast. Their staff all looks pretty young too.

Signature Kombi Rocks Float – Lemonade

I love this drink. It’s very refreshing and I will definitely order this again next time I visit.

We went outside for some photography after we finished our waffles and drinks. Kombi Rocks has a fleet of vintage and retro styled vehicles for rent. I am guessing that these rentals are normally for weddings events. Well, I do believe these rentals are a pretty good alternative revenue stream for Kombi Rocks Cafe as well.
