(Closed) Fat Bird – Hidden Gem for Sichuan Chicken Stew Hot Pot and BBQ Skewers

By Nicole | Updated on Jul 10, 2022

Fat Bird (胖胖鸡)… what a weird name!  This is what I thought when I first walked past this restaurant in Serangoon Gardens. And since then, never did I know that in less than 2 months, I have already dined three more times in Fat Bird and also signed up for their membership. Well, Fatbird becomes one of my favorite restaurants because I love chicken stew hotpot and mala bbq skewers, and their concept is exactly the fusion of these two. What a perfect combination this is for people like me… and importantly, Fat Bird is located relatively near to my house.

The Fat Bird restaurant is located just a few shops away from the Chongqing Grilled Fish Restaurant and I am informed that both the shops are kind of affiliated. You won’t miss this restaurant as it is quite noticeable with its big and bold signage.

Food ordering in Fat Bird is kind of “high tech”. You can easily order your food via their iPad which is mounted on every dining table. I definitely think that every restaurant in Singapore should adopt self-service ordering as it makes the operation so much more efficient.

Spicy Chicken Hotpot Stew

This is their flagship chicken hotpot stew and is definitely a MUST order. A medium-sized pot is more than enough for two persons. It comes at three different spicy levels and the chicken broth is super rich and tasty. The pot has quite a generous serving of chicken pieces. The chicken pieces tasted really tender and I believe it is Kampung chicken instead of frozen packed ones. +1.

For all their hotpot, you can also order ala-carte dishes to put into the hotpot.

BBQ Skewers

I will definitely recommend you to order a few bbq sticks to go along with your chicken hotpot stew. You can choose different types of seasoning for your bbq skewers. For me, I always ordered their special Chinese mala seasoning.

Juices & Soda

Fatbird has a variety of drinks and beverages that you can try. You may want to consider sharing one drink with 2 persons as the serving for each drink is quite large. This is a plus point definitely. Trust me, you will be surprised when the drinks come.

Summary

Fat Bird offers a revolutionary fusion of chicken stew hotpot and mala bbq skewers which are perfectly catered for Sichuan food lovers like me. The food is of good quality and I think is quite reasonably priced as well. Definitely recommending you to try out Fat Bird as this is a restaurant that I will still be frequenting.
